Tomato Seeds Passing Through the Body and Germinating, 2024
Fired sewage sludge, volcanic clay, acrylic medium, gauze, fiberglass, resin, pigment, approx. 40x49x6 cm (x12pcs)
In this work, Luo Jr-Shin, who has been structuring a new linguistic and emotional framework for contemporary art through a range of different activities, recasts the kitchen area in the basement of Seongsan Art Hall as a space of total transformation and creation. Tomato Seeds Passing Through the Body and Germinating, a new work, consists of the relationship between the materials in play and the transformations and tensions of the pre-existing space. In particular, the artist's architectural lighting design, which involved installing a grid in the ceiling of the kitchen, allows a stealthy entry into and exit from the building's interior. Through the work of Luo Jr-Shin, we find ourselves navigating both the passageways of the building and those fleshy, juicy passageways that recall the viscera of the human body.
