Luo Jr-Shin’s practice revolves around the experimentation of a variety of traditional and unconventional materials. Ranging from clay, resin, metal, everyday objects, to food, chemicals, and scent, this host of substances are vehicles through which Luo investigates the underlying spirituality and human condition in our representational world.

Luo is interested in the framework and modes of production from which our cognitive experiences arise. He is known for capturing and amplifying the absurdity within precarious, illusionary, and sometimes delusionary moments of everyday life. Found, commonplace objects and their loaded personas are utilized to fabricate an alternate version of reality, where traces of an object’s normative state can be discovered alongside a slightly askew account of its primary existence.

Materials and the relations formed between objects are the key to understanding Luo’s conceptual inquiries. In addition to surface and forms, the artist considers intently the innate capacity a material possesses in maintaining and transferring energy. He manipulates materials and objects almost objectively – no hierarchical differentiation is made to the treatment of a subject in relation to another. This unbiased approach allows room for diverse meanings to flow and accumulate, creating a new collective whole.
